torre grossa

Middle Ages & sightseeing

The Torre Grossa is the tallest tower in San Gimignano. It is located in the Piazza del Duomo, to the right of the Palazzo Pubblico, also known as the Palazzo del Podestà.

This experience is recommended for anyone planning to visit San Gimignano, but please note that if you suffer from vertigo or have mobility difficulties, you may encounter some challenges, especially on the last ramp.

That being said, we assure you that it is worth climbing the challenging staircase that takes you to the top of the tower, because from the terrace you can admire a splendid 360-degree panorama. The view extends from the historic center of the city, with its rooftops, narrow alleys, and other medieval towers, to the panorama beyond the walls, stretching for kilometers and kilometers over the surrounding countryside, with hills, vineyards, small distant villages, and even the mountains of the Apuan Alps.

In other words, the effort of climbing to its 54-meter height is more than rewarded with a magnificent view of San Gimignano and the surrounding hills.

where to park

In San Gimignano, there are 4 parking lots (subject to a fee): P1, P2, P3, P4.

Our recommendation is to preferably use P2 (see on the map), and if it’s full, proceed to P3/P4 (see on the map). The parking fee is €2.50 for the first hour and €2.00 for each subsequent hour, up to a maximum of €15.00 per day.

Before leaving your hotel, you can check if there are available parking spaces for your car by consulting the real-time parking availability at this link: 🔗check parking availability.
